Statewide Fire Overview - Lightning SeriesCurrent Situation: State, local and federal firefighters continue to battle hundreds of wildfires throughout California with additional personnel and equipment arriving daily. Although fires continue to burn, several hundred fires have been contained by the relentless work of firefighters from California and throughout the nation. Governor Schwarzenegger has deployed California National Guard members to help fight the fires. These crews will be outfitted today with firefighting gear and equipment and will begin training in firefighting techniques. The priority of firefighting is for the protection of life, property and natural resources.
